Halo 5 To Make All 15 DLC Multiplayer Maps Free
Halo probably remains my favourite online first person shooter. Me and a few friends will regularly jump into a game and have a good time to this day. One problem with this experience in the past though has been DLC maps. Sometimes someone will have them, other times a member can't justify the purchase and so on. It can be a mess to organise a group under one umbrella.
Or at least, it was a mess. That isn't going to be the case in Halo 5: Guardians. As revealed in GameInformer, all 15 DLC maps in Halo 5 after launch will be free. As explained by 343 head Josh Holmes, this felt like something that needed to happen:
When you have paid map packs and content, you divide the player base into two groups: the haves and the have-nots.
The people that have the map pack can play together but the people who don't cannot. That to us is a real problem. So we're delivering all the maps to all players free so everybody will be able to play together. That, we feel, is really important to having a great multiplayer ecosystem
These 15 are on top of the 20 that the game is launching with, so there's going to be a ton of multiplayer content in this game. This is a great gesture from the developer after its failings with The Master Chief Collection. Free DLC seems to be a thing of the future, with it proving very popular in The Witcher 3 too. I hope this trend continues.
