DC Collectibles at it Again: DC Lucha Explosiva! Figures Have Been Canceled
DC Collectibles has yet again teased us with something awesome only to rip it away almost as fast. At New York Toy Fair this past February, one of the most unique and talked about lines at the show and after was their DC ¡Lucha Explosiva! line of figures. These figures reimagined DC characters as Mexican Luchadores, and was a huge hit when announced. Sadly, they sent out notices through Diamond to comic stores this week stating that all figures in the line have been canceled and will not be resolicited.
"DC Collectibles is always striving to bring fans imaginative new ways to extend and celebrate DC's most iconic characters. DC ¡Lucha Explosiva! is a passion project for us. We're all huge fans of Lucha Libre, and merging Mexican Luchadores with superheroes seemed like a perfect fit. Besides obvious similarities like masks, capes and secret identities, we also think there is a huge crossover between fan bases. With ¡Lucha Explosiva!, DC Prime and other new items debuting this year, DC Collectibles has something special for everyone — for both longtime collectors and new fans alike."
This really blows, especially for a line as unique as this one would have been. This is far from the first time they have done this, especially in the last couple years, and fans are growing tired of it. Hopefully they figure out a new way to distribute these, and we get a chance to get them to collectors.
