Topps Vintage Star Wars Sticker Book Makes Me Want A Time Machine

One of the cooler vintage Star Wars collectibles you can collect are the old Topps trading card sets. I have been collecting cards of all varieties my whole life, but the Star Was cards have always been a favorite. Inside those sets, along with a piece of bubble gum, they also included sticker cards. Oh how I would have loved to stick those all over my notebooks and lockers at school back in the day, had I been alive then (I was born in 1984, I missed full Star Wars hype and would do anything to change that). Now, thanks to Abrams Publishing, I can sort of have my wish. Coming out in April, The Star Wars Topps Classic Sticker Book is a must buy if you not only collected back in the day, but for newer collectors as well.

Star Wars Topps Classic Sticker Book is the first sticker book to collect more than 250 iconic Star Wars stickers—many reproduced in their original size—released by Topps between 1977 and 1983. As an added bonus, this collection also includes 18 stickers from the "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens" promotion, featuring a mix of classic characters from the original films and new characters from Episode VII. In the back are five pull-out posters so you can make your own unique sticker creations on one side, or display a recreation of a classic Topps Star Wars puzzle poster on the other. Whether you are a lifelong Star Wars fan, or if you have just discovered the epic saga, this is the perfect package for fans of all ages to enjoy!

The first thing I noticed when flipping through the pages? No prequels stickers. I noticed the Force Awakens stickers and had to think back, and I do not think they did classic stickers cards for the prequels. That is kind of a shame that they are not included here. This is not a detriment to the book however, as the main event here are the reproductions of the vintage stickers. And they are gorgeous. They did a fantastic job on these, they are nearly indistinguishable from their vintage counterparts, and I was really happy to see not only the character and scene stickers, but the letters as well.

The book also comes with five pullout posters so that you can peel and place the stickers in the book on them and hang them wherever, with the classic cards puzzles on the reverse side. Personally, I will be placing the stickers on other surfaces, so I won't really be using those, but they are great for the kiddos, with ample space for them to place them all over and hang on the wall. The hyperspace one is a favorite.

Overall, this is a fun little nostalgia trip for adults, and a cool characters resource for the younglings in your life. It would have been cool to see prequel stickers made back when they were coming out so we could have had those characters included and make this a more definitive collection, but that is ok. It takes nothing away from the enjoyment. You can preorder the book here and look for it in stores this April.
