I also love how consistent Phil's character has been over the seasons: always trying new things and – more often than not – succeeding at them. That said, what I cannot get over? How Gloria (Sofia Vergara) keeps blaming her shitty traits on her being Colombia/Latina. It might be the current socio-political mood in the air that makes me extra touchy to this being Latina myself – I am hoping it is not the "current socio-political mood" that has the writers thinking[...]

Even though the show can get repetitive when it comes to certain themes or characters—most noticeable when it comes to Gloria's (Sofia Vergara) not-so-subtle cliché stereotypes and Claire's (Julie Bowen) need to be right or weird determination—Modern Family did manage to surprise me.
