Bleeding Cool Game Awards 2017: Best Story in a Video Game
For Bleeding Cool's Best Story in a Video Game award, our esteemed judges were tasked with ranking the top stories delivered by a video game in the entirety of 2017. And, the choice was hard to make, but one game did have this category in the bag.
The nominees are:
- Wolfenstein II
- The Evil Within 2
- NieR: Automata
- Pyre
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
The judges' scores were:
Games | Madeline's Score | Patrick's Score | Gavin's Score | Total |
Wolfenstein II | 6 | 4 | 3 | 13 |
The Evil Within 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 |
NieR: Automata | 2 | 6 | 4 | 12 |
Pyre | 3 | 2 | 6 | 11 |
Horizon: Zero Dawn | 5 | 3 | 1 | 9 |
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice | 4 | 5 | 5 | 14 |
Despite the best efforts of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Pyre, our judges just could not agree on either of those games, with scores all over the place. The Evil Within 2 won in something of a landslide with all three of our judges ranking it as their top or second top choice. There's definitely a reason for that, the amount of effort, specificity, and emotion put into the Evil Within sequel is enough to touch even the coldest of hearts. Seriously, if that game did not hit you straight in the feels I'm not entirely certain that you are actually human.
So even though single-player story driven games are slowly falling by the wayside, they still have a dedicated place in the hearts of our editors when done well.
