Devolver Digital mocks Lootboxes and Blockchain in One Joke Ad

Devolver Digital's press conference is always off-beat in a very particular way. You never really know what you're going to get from a Devolver conference, but this one was particularly strange. The publisher announced three whole games, made fun of loot boxes and blockchain games, and also called their own games "garbage" and themselves "idiots" all in under 20 minutes. Oh, and the Twitch stream of the show was constantly hosting a streamer throughout the entire thing unless you refreshed your stream. That poor, poor man was stuck streaming throughout the entire conference with no way to end the hosting gig.

The big "joke" of the show was the announcement of a new Devolver Digital specific currency. Lootbox Coins, which are not protected by a blockchain ID, nor can they be exchanged for any in-game items, are a Devolver specific currency. And a hilarious joke for anyone who has had to sit through a "blockchain gaming is the next big thing" panel.

However, because Devolver Digital has the kind of humor that demands they commit to their jokes with alarming degrees of enthusiasm, lootboxcoin.com is a real website where you can buy real lootbox coins. Okay, so it re-directs you to the Devolver store page for the fake coins, but yes, you can really buy them.

No, they are not exchangeable for anything. Nor do they fit in an e-wallet. They're just plastic coins that you pay Devolver real hard currency in order to won. For the lulz.
