Ion Fury Brings Old-School FPS Action to Consoles Mid-May

Voidpoint's old-school first-person shooter Ion Fury does an absolutely fantastic job of channeling classic '90s Build engine games. It positively stunned when it first debuted on PC, and now it's making its way to consoles this May. Take on the role of Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison as she works to take down Dr. Jadus Heskel's cyber-cultist army and defend Neo D.C. She's got her trusty Loverboy revolver by her side, so there's basically no one that can get in her way. It's got three barrels for their displeasure. Shelly will work her way through bizarre creatures, giant robots, and more with some particularly destructive weapons. The Disperser can fire shotgun shells or grenade rounds, and she can use a Clusterpuck to toss into a room and absolutely clear it out.

It's much of the same gory action you remember from games like Duke Nukem 3D and Wolfenstein 3D from yesteryear, only given a fresh coat of paint and some 60 fps gloss. This time, you can play it on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch as well. It lends itself well to console play too, but purists may find that they prefer using the good old WASD and mouse combo.

If you've got a hankering for a taste of the way shooters used to be, Ion Fury should be exactly what you're looking for. You can expect to pick it up on May 14. It's also getting a special physical edition worldwide on June 26, just in case you want to expand your collection further. All this time we've been spending indoors feels perfect for getting reacquainted with the Build engine once more. And in case you haven't been paying attention, Shelly is pretty awesome in her own right. Of course, you've still got to hand it to the original title, Ion Maiden, because it was super cool.
