I am incredibly happy to report that ABC's Modern Family actually took me pleasantly by surprise this week. Considering this season has run hot and cold

The season's second episode of ABC's "Modern Family" was a major step backwards, leaning too hard on slapstick and stereotypes and not enough on story.

I feel like it would have worked better as a "background" storyline, or an extended joke that bookends the episode. Another issue: what are their plans for Alex (Ariel Winter)?
