Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game created by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. The game was first released in 1993. It popularized the collectible card game format which took off in the late 1990s.
Magic: The Gathering can be played by two or more players with various rule formats using a minimum of 40 cards. Each game of Magic represents a battle between powerful wizards known as Planeswalkers who cast spells, use artifacts, and summon creatures. These actions are represented by individual cards that the player can use against their opponent.
New cards are released on a regular basis through expansion sets.
